Birdie Griffey To Host Seniors For Annual Juniors Golf Tournament
Alberta “Birdie” Griffey has been announced as host of the 3rd Annual Seniors for Juniors Golf Tournament. This unique event, which began in 1992 as the Fir State Celebrity Challenge Tournament, features a multi-generational format and is co-presented by Fir State Junior Golf Foundation and Seattle Parks and Recreation. The proceeds benefit the Northwest Senior Games and the Fir State Junior Golf Foundation’s inner-city junior golf and scholarship programs.
It all happens at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 21, when Birdie and golfers tee it up at West Seattle Golf Course, which offers great challenge and spectacular views of the city. The tournament is a five-person scramble, with each team co-captained by a senior golfer (age 50 or better) and a junior golfer from the Fir State junior golf program. The remaining team members may be any age and individual golfers who sign up will be placed on a team.
There are great team and individual prizes to be awarded, plus a mini-team competition between the senior/junior co-captain pairs. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for seniors and juniors to enjoy and learn from each other in a truly fun environment.
An onsite barbeque and awards ceremony in the West Seattle banquet room follows tournament play, with special entertainment by comedian Rod Long, and a live auction featuring unique items and priceless sports memorabilia.
The cost to participate in the Seniors for Juniors Tournament is just $100 per person/$400 per foursome and includes carts, on-course refreshments, and the post-golf dinner. Additional dinner/auction tickets are available for purchase at $25 each.
