Delancy Takes The Helm as The Boeing Classic Tournament Director
Avid Northwest golf fans know that The Boeing Classic is a well-oiled machine. The Boeing Classic is proof that golf, philanthropy, and fun can make a major difference in the community. The event, which began in 2005, has raised more than $2.9 million for local charities.
Ensuring the success of The Boeing Classic, Michele DeLancy has taken the helm as Tournament Director. Not a stranger to hard work, Michele has served as the Interim Tournament Director since March 2009, seeing the Classic through its successful event last August.
As the Tournament Director, DeLancy will be responsible for all areas of the tournament including player relations, sales, marketing, communications, operations and will manage the relationships with both the PGA Champions TOUR and beneficiary - Virginia Mason Medical Center.
DeLancy’s experience with the Boeing Classic from it’s beginning stages of development to now, one of the most successful and popular events on the Champions Tour, will be critical to the event’s continued success and future growth. “Michelle has played a big part over the past five years in making the Boeing Classic one of the best events on the Champions Tour,” said Michael VanDerhoef, President of the Virginia Mason Foundation. “She has emerged as a very talented Tournament Director and we’re thrilled for Michelle and for the Boeing Classic.”
A graduate of Washington State University, DeLancy began her career as the Marketing & Events Specialist for Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason. She was then promoted to Marketing Manager and then Marketing Director for Virginia Mason Medical Center, where she created and managed marketing and branding opportunities for the medical center including sports marketing, community organizations, and corporate marketing opportunities. It was while working in this capacity that she became one of the early leaders in shaping the future of the Boeing Classic as the event’s beneficiary.
Golf fans, eager to watch the amazing field of tour professionals, will be happy to know that the Boeing Classic is returning the TPC Snoqualmie Ridge August 23-29, 2010. Tickets will run between $20 and $60 dollars, though you need not buy tickets for kids under 14 years of age. The Golf Channel, not one to ignore an impressive Champions’ Event, will cover the event as well. For more information on The Boeing Classic, please visit www.boeingclassic.com.
